If you're an Owly fan like me and my family, then you shouldn't miss buying this great book to add to your collection! It's well worth the price, I'm actually surprised Andy sold it for so little when I'm sure Owly fans everywhere will be willing to pay more for the treasure trove that's inside.

Owly is the friendliest owl ever.
Volume 5 is a collection of mostly very short (tiny?) stories originally published in Free Comic Book Day giveaways and other promotional or hard to find locations. At the end of the book is a nice little look at the creation of the Owly character including some of the original drawings and stories as Runton was fleshing out Owly and his world. I found that part very interesting. If nothing else you need to own this so you can see pictures of Wormy using a floatation device so he can swim. Maybe the cutest thing ever in a comic!

Owly is one of the great, mostly unheralded, treasures of graphic novel-dom this decade, and Runton's fifth Owly book is just as enchanting as those that came before it. Tiny Tales collects a number of short, previously uncollected Owly stories from various publications, ranging from one-page quickies to the novella-length "Splashin' Around" and "Helping Hands". Runton also includes a short section in the back of the book on the evolution of Owly, which is precious (and I mean that in the best of ways). While I appreciate (and, in fact, dearly love) gritty, realistic graphic novelists like Brian Azzarello, Garth Ennis, Brian K. Vaughan, etc., I am equally wowed by the bucolic, escapist wonder that is Owly. If you haven't yet found your way into his world, I suggest you do so at your earliest opportunity. ****

"Short stories," if you will, from owlmeister Andy Runton. From birdbath building contests to ice break rescues, to broken flower arrangements, to hostile hummingbirds, these characters handle each adventure with real emotion and creative problem-solving. Should be "read" by all ages.
The Owly graphic novel series would probably be enjoyed most at ages 5-8yrs.
It could be used, at any age, as a teaching tool in story writing, as there is an absence of text.
It could be used, at any age, as a teaching tool in Art, as a perfect example of how a picture can tell a story.
And finally, each story is an adventure about making good choices.
I have bought all in the series.

We bought this after borrowing it from the library. Owly is a great comic to introduce kids to comics and encourage reading. It's also fun, well-written, and visually appealing.
