On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, The Cupcake Dilemma by Jennifer Rodewald is a cookie dough cupcake. Hidden in the center of delicious cake is cookie dough. Sweet all the way through, but it can sometimes seem to take too long to get to the cookie dough.Kirstin Hill, first-year teacher and kitchen disaster, is told to bring the cupcakes to a school event. With her track record of kitchen explosions, she knows this is not a good idea. When she tries to schedule a cupcake order with handsome baker Ian, he insists that she can't be that big of a kitchen disaster and tries to teach her. Sparks fly, and not just the romantic ones.
Perhaps I started this book with the wrong expectations, but the story dragged in the beginning for me. I persisted because others raved about this novella, and I'm glad I did. Around chapter 3, my attention caught. Kirstin and Ian made me smile, and their dialogue was snappy. The romance stayed in the friend zone for a while, even though we knew where this was headed, but some might argue that this made it all the more sweet.
If you enjoy a quirky and disaster-oriented character (which I so do), you'll enjoy The Cupcake Dilemma. And hang in there past the first few chapters (but of course, you might love those chapters)!

I have had kitchen fails—baked fish covered in tomato sauce—but Kirsten’s fails were epic! Ian showed that kitchen fails we’re nothing but accidents and he could handle those. He helped her see who she really was and to be free from the expectations of others. Great story.
Even the name is sweet! A charming novella and since this is the first of this author's work that I've read, I think it's safe to say I'll be reading more.
I love a cute HEA as long as it is not ridiculously predictable or lacking a plot. If you agree, then The Cupcake Dilemma is for you. I loved the witty first person tale and may have to read it again soon. It was so fun- I definitely recommend this book.
This is one of those books that will take you on a comical adventure. Kirstin Hill is quite a character until she teams up with Ian who is a professional baker. He is equally a match in the funny department.
I really enjoyed how the characters come alive and add so much to the story. It's very entertaining with a lot of humor.
I have never read a book by Jennifer Rodewald before but was drawn in by the cute cover and fun description. Oh my gosh what a fun story! I grinned so hard while reading it that my cheeks hurt ) Loved the characters, loved the story, loved the setting, loved all of it!! My only sadness was that it is a novella when I would have been so happy for another 200 pages with Kirstin and Ian!
I absolutely adored this book! I haven't loved the voice of an author or character this much in a long time—especially in Christian Fiction. The author had me reeled in from the first couple of pages. It was so cute and so funny! I couldn't get enough. And how fun that you had so many wonderful sweet/dessert adjectives to describe the romance interest! Loved, loved, LOVED it! Can't wait to read more by this author!
I loved this wonderful, funny, sweet novella! It is narrated by Kirstin, our heroine, and told in first person. I loved her sense of humor, her hilarious kitchen mishaps that will have you laughing out loud, and her relationship with Ian. And speaking of Ian, what a great hero. Loved his goofiness, his patience with said kitchen mishaps, and his brother (would love his story some day! Jen? Maybe? Please?) And the ending - So. Good.
I am not a rereader per say, but this is one story I wanted to start over as soon as I finished it! I also loved catching up with Syd, Kale, and Joe from Ordinary Snowflakes (another awesome read by Jen) and now I will be searching out the other book set in this wonderful little town of Rock Creek - Reclaimed. Also, I do have a warning ⚠️for you, I don’t even like cupcakes but you will be craving them before this book is over!
This is for sure gonna be a top 2018 read for me. 5 stars are not enough so I’m giving this one 6 stars!! And for .99 you cannot go wrong!
